If your team has never used a dosimetry product or have only used passive badges in the past, read on to help prepare your team to use the NetDose digital dosimeter.
Educate your users to
- Wear and store the dosimeter.
- Synchronize the dosimeter
- Monitor the dosimeter's status
Wearing the dosimeter
In order for the dosimeter to measure dose appropriately, it must be worn appropriately. The dosimeter has a front side that should face away from the user, and a back side that should face toward the user. The dosimeter case includes a clip that can be used to attach the dosimeter to the user's apparel.
-
The dosimeter should be worn at all times when there is a potential for occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
-
Dosimeters not in use should be stored in an area without radiation to prevent exposure that is not work-related.
-
Dosimeters should be worn at the body location indicated on the dosimeter label and should never be cut, covered, blocked, or written on. When a protective garment is worn, the dosimeter should be worn at the collar outside the protective garment, or at the waist behind the protective garment. Effective Dose Equivalent (EDE) calculations may be necessary in this case. Please click here for more information.
-
Be sure to use only the dosimeter marked with the proper individual's identification.
Educate the wearers on syncing the dosimeter
If wearers are going to sync using their own accounts and/or their own devices, they will need to be granted NetDose access by an administrator, and setup according to the Quick Start Guide.
Be sure to review the Quick Start Guide with your wearers. The dosimeter only needs to be paired with a device once, and it will be remembered by the device unless told to forget.
The device can be synced at any time by pressing and holding the button on the dosimeter and pressing the start synchronization button on the app.
Educate your wearers based on the standardized program you design.
Educate wearers to check their devices
There are two critical items wearers should keep an eye on:
- It is recommended to press and release the blue button (do not hold as you would during a sync) on the dosimeter before wearing it to confirm the device shows a green status light to indicate the device is operating properly.
- Wearers should notify management immediately if they see an amber status LED on the dosimeter (not including the amber light that breifly flashes during syncing). This could be an indication that the dosimeter is warning of a dose threshold exceedence or there is a malfunction.
