How do I select the right role for my users?

This article discusses user roles and their capabilities.

A NetDose Dosimetry Service account allows for the creation of a user base with different levels of access to the NetDose software. Each user is assigned a role, during the user creation process, as either an Administrator, Supervisor, or Wearer.

The role assigned to a user in NetDose plays a crucial role in determining their level of access and permissions within the system. Depending on their role, users can have different capabilities and responsibilities, ranging from managing their account settings to viewing their radiation dose data.

Administrator

The Administrator role in the NetDose software is the highest level of access and provides the most control and editing privileges. Administrators have the ability to access and manage all data and operations within their customer account, including user and dosimeter management, as well as gateway and dosimeter software updates.

Administrator is the best role for personnel that need:

  1. Total control to create user accounts, grant NetDose access, assign roles, edit all user information.
  2. The ability to Assign/Unassign/Configure devices.
  3. To Set ALARA Thresholds, create departments, and edit account information.
  4. To have full control and authority over the account.

For more information on the topics mentioned above, please refer to the links provided at the end of this article.

Supervisor

The Supervisor role is for users than do not need the full editing privileges of the administrator, but still need to monitor the radiation doses of peers and subordinates.  This is done with the use of departments. Supervisors can only be created specifically for departments, and a department must be selected when the role is assigned.  The Supervisor can only see the dose information of users (and their devices) that are assigned to the Supervisor's department.  This includes other Supervisor's assigned to the same department.

In additional Supervisors also have the ability to:

  1. Perform minor edits to a user's general information.
  2. Grant NetDose access to users.

  3. Generate dose reports for the users in their department.

Wearer

The Wearer role is designated for users whose job requires monitoring of their radiation dose. Wearers have access to their information only, including the amount of radiation they have received.  Wearers cannot edit any information.  Please click here for a simplified Wearer's Guide that will help users with the Wearer role quickly integrate the NetDose Dosimetry Service into their daily routine.

NOTE: Don't let the names fool you!  Administrators and Supervisors can also wear dosimeters and have their dosimetry data recorded if they are assigned devices, just like a user that is designated as a Wearer.

Role Selection

Role selection takes place at user creation.   For more information regarding user creation, please click here (See Step 4.1, item 1 for the role selection field).
